Today, India has over four lakh engineering students in comparison to 75000 in the US but we lack QUALITY. We are still working in basic science whereas in developed countries, student are researching on bio engineering and NANOTECHNOLOGY etc.    Another thing to worry about is How India will meet the demand arising 10 to 20 years from now. A decade back India used to produce 12 percent of world scientific research. But today it has come to 2.5 percent. Now China has taken our position by producing 12 percent of research output. India can lead the world through KNOWLEDGE POWER and NOT through economic or military power----Prof. CNR RAO, Chairman, Scientific Advisory Council to the PM on  29^th. Are we, Indians, producing hi-tech sweepers at our institutes for serving in developed countries since “global manufacturing and/or global research sectors” are being thoroughly controlled by non-Indian engineers and since pay packets for sweepers in developed countries are at par with those for Indians engineers abroad lacking research IQ+EQ+SQ?!

Aneesh  Jain, an IITian at IIT Kharagpur, analyses the reason and goes on to pinpoint what the Indian education system lacks, stating further that the IITs teach you how to DREAM ! But they play an equal role in shattering them. Most IITians end up making it big but then it is usually NOT what they have dreamt about.  Given a choice (?) most people would have chased a profession close to their heart(?)(!)

Another, Amit Gupta from the same IIT kharagpur, declared : “I have never ever regretted my decision of coming to an IIT, only because of what I learnt OUTSIDE the classroom.”

Why engineering? simple! Only because JEE comes with engineering,” says Aashwit Mahajan, an IIT Bombay graduate. Aashwit is doing well in post graduation, but is that what he really wanted “I guess if there had been a similar level of surety about success in some other stream, I would probably have ended up as a commerce graduate, a painter, a doctor, a musician, a political critic or may be even a journalist” he adds.
